We work in partnership with the University of Chichester, who approve and validate our Insurance degree programmes.
Who is the course for?
This 12-month course is designed to allow insurance professionals with a CII Advanced Diploma to top-up to a full BA (Hons) Degree in Insurance. Most classes take place online, with occasional on-site lessons taking place at weekends (one day every six weeks at our campus in Winchester).
In order to prepare for advanced level study, students will need to complete two bridging modules in the summer prior to the academic year in which they wish to start (commencing in July). These modules are included in the course fee.
This is the only course in the UK that allows insurance professionals to top-up their CII qualifications to a full honour’s degree. The course is validated by the University of Chichester and students will achieve a Chichester award on successful completion.
Please note that this course is currently subject to validation.
What are the aims of the course?
To allow those with Advanced CII qualifications to ‘top-up’ to a full honours degree. The course aims to provide a programme which engages with contemporary issues in the insurance sector and prepares students for future management and leadership roles. It will encourage learners to use multidisciplinary sources, drawing on academic, theoretical and practical perspectives to inform and develop their understanding of the sector.
What are the entry requirements?
Applicants should have completed an Advanced CII Diploma.
What will I study?
To ensure that you are ready for advanced level study, you will need to complete two 20 credit modules in the summer before the academic year in which you wish to start (July-September). These modules are: Developing & Enhancing Academic Skills and Personal Development Planning.
From September, you will study: Contemporary Issues in Insurance, Leadership & Management Theory, Strategic Management and The Insurance Business. You will also complete a 40-credit dissertation across Semester 2 and 3.
Why might I want to do this?
A degree is a universally understood qualification and provides a clear benchmark for employers when selecting candidates for promotion and interview.
The majority of modules covered in the top-up are business related and help you to develop the skills of critical analysis, which are not so prevalent in the professional CII qualifications. Degrees are designed to make you think in a different way and it is development of these different approaches to thinking which can enable you to stand out as an employee and progress more rapidly.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment includes essays, reports, individual and group presentations, case studies and research reports. These strategies are also designed to enable the development of key transferable skills in the workplace. There are no examinations.
What are the Fees?
The fee is £5,950. This can be paid for via a student loan providing you meet the Student Loan Company requirements.
How do I apply?
Applications can be made via the UCAS Apply system or via our website. All applicants will be invited to interview. Any queries regarding this course should be directed to the HE Admissions Team via firstname.lastname@example.org.
