BA (Hons) Insurance

Who is the course for?

The BA (Hons) in Insurance is an exciting degree programme that been designed specifically for those working within the insurance broking industry. The course is open to individuals who wish to combine studying for a degree in insurance alongside working as an insurance broker. Students are required to attend college one day (6 hours) per week, allowing them to earn while they learn.

The programme provides the opportunity to examine theory, policy and practice, as well as carrying out research. Students are expected to use their work setting as a source of information and reflection, research and utilise theories and concepts used in the classroom to inform analysis of issues in the insurance sector and construct reasoned arguments.

The BA (Hons) in Insurance is validated and awarded by the University of Chichester.

What are the entry requirements?

The entry requirements for those under 21 years of age are 64 UCAS points or a Level 3 qualification and employment within the insurance sector. For applicants over the age of 21 the requirements are a Level 3 qualification such as the CII Level 3 Certificate in Insurance or substantial work experience within the Insurance sector, along with current employment in the insurance sector.

What will I study?

Why is College attendance only 6 hours per week?

We teach for 34 weeks per year as opposed to many universities teaching approximately 22 weeks per year.

Personal tutorials and assessment coaching sessions are provided at mutually convenient times outside teaching hours.

We use a ‘blended approach to learning’ where students are supported through a mixture of formal lectures, seminars, online materials and one to one tutorial support.

Each year will be divided into three terms of approximately 12 weeks and students will complete 120 credits per year.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL, RPCL, RPEL)

Students may be able to draw from a wide range of evidence to support their claim e.g. employer information / feedback / appraisals; CPD records; past course materials; essays; certificates etc. For further information please see our RPL procedure document available at Reception or

What will I obtain after successful completion of year 3?

You will obtain a BA (Hons) in Insurance. Your degree certificate will be from the University of Chichester. However, we operate our own graduation ceremony, which is normally held in September.

What could the course lead to?

The course has a strong management focus in year 3, which will prepare students for future management roles. Other potential career paths include: Insurance Broking, Claims Management, Customer Operations, Loss Adjusting, Loss Assessing, Reinsurance, The London Market (Lloyds), Risk Management, Underwriting and Actuarial.
